Welcome!
Choosing Healthy Options in Cooperative Education is an alternative program at Juneau-Douglas High School. Our mission is graduation from high school for a select set of grade 9-11 students who have experienced factors in their lives which have undermined success in a traditional academic setting. We are currently in our twenty-fourth year at JDHS.
CHOICE is a four-teacher, sixty student program emphasizing community, family contact, off-campus retreats, hands-on and community-based experiences, service-learning, and closely monitored support for success in academic work.
CHOICE students complete all core classes with us during periods 1-4 of their freshmen, sophomore, and junior years. Their 5th and 6th period classes are elective classes in the JDHS mainstream. Most courses are taught in a block format; students are with the same teacher for two periods. Additionally, our class sizes are typically smaller. This means CHOICE students and teachers develop close relationships which allow thorough understanding of each student's needs and abilities. CHOICE students continue completing their elective requirements during their senior years while also meeting together in a weekly advisory class.
